Exploring New Flavors: Green Tea Pesto Pasta

As the weather starts to cool down and the leaves begin to change color, I find myself craving comforting dishes that also provide a touch of the unexpected. Today, I am excited to share with you a recipe that combines the earthy flavors of green tea with the richness of traditional Italian pesto. This Green Tea Pesto Pasta is a delightful fusion of flavors that will surely surprise and delight your taste buds.

For this unique dish, you will need the following ingredients:

  • spaghetti (200g)
  • green tea leaves (5g)
  • basil leaves (30g)
  • pine nuts (50g)
  • parmesan cheese (50g)
  • garlic cloves (2)
  • olive oil (100ml)
  • salt and pepper to taste

Before starting the cooking process, make sure you have the following kitchen tools on hand:

  • pot for boiling water
  • pan for toasting pine nuts
  • food processor for blending
  • grater for parmesan cheese

Begin by boiling water in a pot and cooking the spaghetti according to the package instructions. While the pasta is cooking, toast the pine nuts in a dry pan over medium heat until lightly browned and fragrant. Set aside to cool.

In a food processor, combine the green tea leaves, basil leaves, toasted pine nuts, garlic cloves, parmesan cheese, and olive oil. Blend until smooth, adding more olive oil if needed to reach your desired consistency. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Once the pasta is cooked al dente, drain it and return it to the pot. Add the green tea pesto mixture and toss until the pasta is evenly coated. Serve hot, garnished with additional parmesan cheese and a sprinkle of pine nuts for added texture.

The total weight of the cooked dish is approximately 600g, with four servings at 150g each. Each serving is about 400 calories.

One fun tip for this dish is to infuse the olive oil with green tea leaves beforehand for an even more pronounced tea flavor. Simply heat the olive oil in a pan with the green tea leaves until fragrant, then strain out the leaves before using the oil in the pesto.

I hope you enjoy experimenting with this Green Tea Pesto Pasta recipe and make it your own with different herbs or nuts. It’s a delightful twist on a classic dish that is sure to impress your friends and family. Happy cooking!
