Unconventional Dessert: Spiced Pear & Rosemary Galette

As the holiday season approaches, I find myself craving warm, comforting desserts with a twist. Today, I’m excited to share my recipe for a Spiced Pear & Rosemary Galette that combines the sweetness of ripe pears with the earthy aroma of fresh rosemary. This unique dessert is perfect for cozy gatherings or simply treating yourself to something special.

Ingredients:

<li data-ingredient="2 ripe pears (approx. 400g), thinly sliced

    <li data-ingredient="1/4 cup brown sugar (approx. 50g)

    <li data-ingredient="1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

    <li data-ingredient="1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

<li data-ingredient="1 sprig of fresh rosemary, finely chopped

    <li data-ingredient="1 pre-made pie crust (approx. 200g)

    <li data-ingredient="1 tbsp honey (approx. 20g)

<li data-ingredient="1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Kitchen Tools:

  • rolling pin
  • mixing bowl
  • baking sheet
  • pastry brush

To start, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced pears, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and chopped rosemary. Toss everything together until the pears are well coated with the sugar and spices.

Next, roll out the pre-made pie crust on a lightly floured surface to about 12 inches in diameter. Carefully transfer the rolled-out crust to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Arrange the pear mixture in the center of the crust, leaving a border of about 2 inches.

Fold the edges of the crust over the pears, pleating as you go to create a rustic galette shape. Brush the edges of the crust with the beaten egg to give it a golden finish. Drizzle the honey over the pear mixture for added sweetness.

Bake the galette in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the pears are tender. Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.

This Spiced Pear & Rosemary Galette weighs approximately 670g once cooked and serves 6. Each serving is around 110g and contains an estimated 250 calories.

For a unique twist, try adding a sprinkle of flaky sea salt over the galette just before serving. The salt enhances the flavors of the sweet pears and savory rosemary, creating a delightful contrast that will surprise your taste buds.

I hope you give this unconventional dessert a try and enjoy the combination of flavors it offers. Feel free to experiment with different herbs or spices to make it your own. Happy baking!
