Moroccan-Inspired Lamb Meatball Tagine

Today, I’m excited to share a recipe for a Moroccan-inspired dish that always brings warmth and comfort to my table. This flavorful lamb meatball tagine is perfect for cozy nights in or special gatherings with loved ones. The delicious blend of spices and tender meat is sure to transport you to the bustling souks of Marrakech.

Ingredients:

  • ground lamb
  • onion, finely chopped
  • garlic, minced
  • egg
  • breadcrumbs
  • ground cumin
  • ground coriander
  • ground cinnamon
  • cayenne pepper
  • chopped fresh mint
  • chopped fresh parsley
  • to taste
  • canned chickpeas, drained
  • canned diced tomatoes
  • chicken broth
  • raisins
  • slivered almonds
  • for serving

Kitchen Tools:

  • knife
  • cutting board
  • mixing bowl
  • skillet
  • tagine dish

Start by preheating your oven to 180°C. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground lamb, onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, cumin, coriander, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, mint, parsley, salt, and pepper. Use your hands to mix everything together until well combined. Shape the mixture into small meatballs and set aside.

Heat a skillet over medium heat and brown the meatballs on all sides. Once browned, transfer the meatballs to a tagine dish. Add the chickpeas, diced tomatoes, chicken broth, raisins, and slivered almonds to the tagine dish. Cover with a lid or aluminum foil and place in the preheated oven.

Bake for about 30-40 minutes until the meatballs are cooked through and the sauce has thickened slightly. While the tagine is baking, prepare the couscous according to the package instructions.

Once the meatball tagine is ready, serve hot over the fluffy couscous. The combination of tender lamb, aromatic spices, and sweet raisins is a true flavor sensation that will transport you to the heart of Morocco.

Approximate total weight of cooked dish: 1400g
Number of servings: 4
Average weight of one serving: 350g
Approximate calorie count per serving: 480 calories

One unusual tip for this recipe is to sprinkle some chopped preserved lemon over the tagine before serving. The tangy flavor of the preserved lemon adds a unique brightness to the dish that truly elevates the flavors.

I encourage you to give this Moroccan-inspired lamb meatball tagine a try and don’t be afraid to adjust the spices and ingredients to suit your taste preferences. Enjoy!
