Art History Recipe: Renaissance Ravioli

Today, I am excited to share a unique and creative recipe inspired by the beautiful works of the Renaissance period. The artistry and attention to detail of that era have always fascinated me, and I wanted to capture that essence in a delicious dish. This Renaissance Ravioli combines classic Italian flavors with a modern twist, creating a culinary masterpiece that is as visually stunning as it is delicious.

Ingredients:

  • fresh pasta dough (300g)
  • ricotta cheese (200g)
  • butternut squash, roasted and mashed (250g)
  • fresh sage leaves (10g)
  • butter (50g)
  • parmesan cheese, grated (50g)
  • nutmeg, freshly grated
  • salt and pepper to taste

Kitchen Tools:

  • rolling pin
  • knife
  • mixing bowl
  • fork
  • baking sheet
  • pot

To begin, roll out the fresh pasta dough thinly and cut it into squares. In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese with the roasted and mashed butternut squash, adding a pinch of freshly grated nutmeg for a warm and aromatic flavor. Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste.

Place a spoonful of the cheese and squash filling in the center of each pasta square, then fold the dough over to form a triangle, pressing the edges firmly to seal the ravioli. In a pot of boiling water, cook the ravioli until they float to the surface, indicating that they are ready.

While the ravioli are cooking, melt the butter in a pan and add the fresh sage leaves, letting them cook until crispy. Once the ravioli are cooked, remove them from the water and toss them in the sage-infused butter, coating each piece evenly. Serve the ravioli hot, garnished with grated parmesan cheese and a sprinkle of black pepper.

This Renaissance Ravioli dish weighs approximately 750g total and serves 4 people. Each serving is around 188g, with an estimated calorie count of 350 per serving.

One unique tip for this dish is to sprinkle a little extra nutmeg on top of the ravioli before serving. The warm, aromatic spice will enhance the flavors of the butternut squash and ricotta filling, adding an extra layer of complexity to each bite.

I hope you enjoy this creative twist on a classic Italian dish. Feel free to experiment with different fillings and flavors to make this Renaissance Ravioli your own masterpiece. Buon Appetito!
