Today’s Unique Dessert: Sparkling Grapefruit Granita

As the temperatures begin to rise, I find myself craving refreshing and light desserts. That’s why I’m excited to share with you my recipe for Sparkling Grapefruit Granita today. This icy treat is perfect for cooling down on a hot summer day or as a unique ending to a special meal.

Ingredients:

  • 1 white grapefruit (approx. 200g)
  • 100g sugar
  • 200ml sparkling water
  • handful of fresh mint leaves

Kitchen Tools:

  • citrus juicer
  • fine mesh sieve
  • shallow dish
  • fork

To start, juice the white grapefruit using a citrus juicer to extract all the juice. Strain the juice through a fine mesh sieve to remove any pulp or seeds. In a shallow dish, mix the grapefruit juice with sugar until the sugar is fully dissolved. Slowly pour in the sparkling water and give it a gentle stir to combine.

Place the dish in the freezer and let it freeze for about 1-2 hours until ice crystals start to form around the edges. Using a fork, scrape the icy edges towards the center to break up the mixture. Repeat this process every 30 minutes for about 3-4 hours until the entire mixture is fluffy and icy.

Before serving, finely chop the fresh mint leaves and sprinkle them on top of the granita for a pop of freshness and color. The mint adds a lovely aromatic element to the dessert that complements the tangy grapefruit perfectly.

The total weight of the cooked dish is approximately 400g, making about 4 servings. Each serving weighs around 100g, with an estimated calorie count of 80 calories per serving.

One tip to make this Sparkling Grapefruit Granita even more delicious is to use chilled sparkling water instead of room temperature. This will help the granita freeze quicker and result in a lighter, fluffier texture.

I encourage you to give this unique dessert a try and feel free to customize it to your liking. Add a splash of vodka for a boozy version or swap out the grapefruit for lemon or lime for a different citrus twist. Enjoy!
