Hearty Beef Stew Recipe

May 4, 2025 Written by Isabella

Today I’m excited to share one of my all-time favorite recipes: a classic beef stew. There’s something so comforting about a hearty stew simmering away on the stove, filling the house with delicious aromas. Whether it’s a chilly winter day or a cozy night in with loved ones, this dish is sure to warm your heart and soul.

To make this beef stew, you will need the following ingredients:
– 1 kg of beef chuck, cut into cubes
– 2 tbsp of olive oil
– 1 onion, chopped
– 2 carrots, sliced
– 2 celery stalks, diced
– 3 garlic cloves, minced
– 2 tbsp of tomato paste
– 1 L of beef broth
– 2 bay leaves
– Salt and pepper to taste
– 2 tbsp of all-purpose flour
– 1 cup of frozen peas

In addition to the ingredients, you will need a few kitchen tools to make this stew:
– Dutch oven
– Chef’s knife
– Cutting board
– Wooden spoon
– Measuring cups and spoons

To start, heat the olive oil in a Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the beef cubes in batches and brown them on all sides. Once browned, remove the beef from the pot and set it aside.

In the same pot, add the chopped onion, carrots, and celery. Cook until the vegetables are softened, then add the minced garlic and tomato paste. Stir well to combine and cook for another 2 minutes.

Return the beef to the pot and sprinkle the flour over the mixture. Stir until the flour is fully incorporated and cook for another minute. This will help thicken the stew.

Pour in the beef broth, add the bay leaves, and season with salt and pepper. Bring the stew to a simmer, then cover and let it cook for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beef is tender.

About 30 minutes before serving, add the frozen peas to the stew and stir well. Let them cook through before serving.

Once the stew is ready, remove the bay leaves and give it a final taste for seasoning. Serve hot and enjoy the comforting flavors of this classic beef stew.

The approximate total weight of the cooked dish is 1900 grams, and it serves 6 people. Each serving weighs around 316 grams, with an estimated calorie count of 350 per serving.

One tip to make this beef stew even more flavorful is to add a splash of red wine while simmering the beef. The wine adds a richness and depth of flavor that takes this dish to the next level.

I hope you give this beef stew a try and make it your own by adding your favorite vegetables or herbs. It’s a versatile dish that can be customized to suit your taste preferences. Enjoy!
