Today’s Inspiration: A Taste of Japan

As the weather begins to warm up, I find myself craving light, fresh flavors that remind me of spring. Today, I’m excited to share a unique and flavorful dish inspired by Japanese cuisine. This recipe combines the umami richness of miso with the delicate sweetness of caramelized onions for a dish that is sure to tantalize your taste buds.

Ingredients:

  • miso paste (50g)
  • caramelized onions (200g)
  • soba noodles (150g)
  • shiitake mushrooms (100g)
  • tofu (150g)
  • sesame oil
  • green onions
  • sesame seeds

Kitchen Tools:

  • knife
  • cutting board
  • saucepan
  • strainer
  • frying pan

To start, cook the soba noodles according to the package instructions. In a separate pan, heat some sesame oil and sauté the shiitake mushrooms until they are golden brown and fragrant. Set aside. In the same pan, fry the tofu until it is crispy on the outside.

Meanwhile, in a saucepan, heat up the miso paste with some water to create a flavorful broth. Add in the caramelized onions and let the flavors meld together. Once the broth is simmering, add in the cooked soba noodles and stir to combine.

To serve, place a generous portion of the miso noodle broth in a bowl. Top with the sautéed shiitake mushrooms and crispy tofu. Garnish with thinly sliced green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds for a touch of freshness and crunch.

Tips & Tricks:

For an extra depth of flavor, try adding a splash of soy sauce or a drizzle of rice vinegar to the miso broth. This will elevate the dish and bring out the umami notes even more.

This dish serves 4 and each serving is approximately 300g. One serving contains around 350 calories, making it a nutritious and satisfying meal option.
