Exploring Art Through Food: Citrus Burst Salad

Today, I’m excited to share a vibrant and refreshing recipe inspired by the colorful and lively works of abstract expressionist artists. This Citrus Burst Salad is a delightful blend of flavors and textures that will awaken your taste buds and brighten your day.

Ingredients:

  • mixed greens (arugula, spinach, kale)
  • blood oranges
  • Cara Cara oranges
  • yellow grapefruit
  • fennel bulb
  • pomegranate seeds
  • toasted pistachios
  • extra virgin olive oil
  • white balsamic vinegar
  • honey
  • sea salt
  • black pepper

Kitchen Tools:

  • chef’s knife
  • cutting board
  • citrus juicer
  • salad bowl
  • whisk

To start, wash and dry the mixed greens before placing them in a large salad bowl. Peel the blood oranges, Cara Cara oranges, and grapefruit, removing the white pith, then slice them into rounds. Thinly slice the fennel bulb and add it to the bowl along with the citrus slices. Sprinkle the pomegranate seeds and toasted pistachios over the top.

In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, white balsamic vinegar, honey, salt, and pepper to create a tangy dressing. Drizzle the dressing over the salad and gently toss to coat all the ingredients evenly.

This Citrus Burst Salad is best served chilled, allowing the flavors to meld together. The combination of sweet citrus, crunchy fennel, and nutty pistachios creates a harmonious symphony of taste and texture.

Once prepared, the total weight of the salad is approximately 500g, making enough for 4 servings. Each serving has an average weight of 125g and an estimated calorie count of 150.

A clever tip for this salad is to refrigerate the citrus fruits before slicing them. Chilling the fruits will make them easier to peel and slice, and the cold temperature will enhance their refreshing taste.

I hope you enjoy this Citrus Burst Salad as much as I do! Feel free to experiment with different citrus fruits, nuts, or herbs to make this dish your own. Happy cooking!
