Today’s Unique Dessert: Basil-Lemon Panna Cotta

As the summer heat starts to kick in, I find myself craving light and refreshing desserts. Today, I’m excited to share with you my recipe for a unique Basil-Lemon Panna Cotta. This creamy dessert has a subtle herbaceous twist from fresh basil and a zesty kick from lemon zest, making it the perfect treat for warm days.

Ingredients:

  • 500ml heavy cream
  • 250ml milk
  • 150g sugar
  • 10g gelatin
  • Handful of fresh basil leaves
  • Zest of 1 lemon

Kitchen Tools:

  • saucepan
  • whisk
  • fine mesh strainer
  • ramekins

To start, pour the heavy cream and milk into a saucepan over medium heat. Add in the sugar and whisk until dissolved. Simmer the mixture gently, stirring occasionally.

Meanwhile, prepare the gelatin according to the package instructions. Once the cream mixture is hot but not boiling, remove it from the heat and stir in the bloomed gelatin until fully dissolved.

Next, tear the fresh basil leaves and add them to the cream mixture along with the lemon zest. Let the mixture steep for about 10 minutes to infuse the flavors.

Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a large measuring cup or bowl to remove the basil leaves and any lumps. Divide the mixture among ramekins and chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, or until set.

Once the panna cotta is set, gently run a knife around the edges of each ramekin and invert them onto serving plates. Serve the Basil-Lemon Panna Cotta chilled, garnished with fresh basil leaves and a sprinkle of lemon zest.

The total weight of the cooked dish is approximately 800g, making 4 servings. Each serving is around 200g, with an estimated calorie count of 350 per serving.

One clever tip for this recipe is to place the ramekins in a shallow dish of warm water for a few seconds before inverting them onto the plates. This will help release the panna cotta smoothly and intact.

I hope you give this Basil-Lemon Panna Cotta a try and enjoy its unique combination of flavors. Feel free to experiment with different herbs or citrus fruits to make it your own!
