Today, I’m excited to share a refreshing and exotic dessert that perfectly captures the essence of summer – Mango Basil Sorbet. The sweet and tangy flavor of ripe mangoes combined with the fresh, aromatic taste of basil creates a unique and delightful treat that is sure to impress your taste buds. This sorbet is perfect for hot days when you’re looking for a cool and satisfying dessert to enjoy.

Ingredients:

  • 3 large ripe mangoes (500g)
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves (30g)
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice (60ml)
  • 1/2 cup honey (120ml)
  • 1/2 cup water (120ml)

Kitchen Tools:

  • blender
  • fine mesh strainer
  • saucepan
  • ice cream maker

To start, blend the ripe mango cubes, fresh basil leaves, fresh lime juice, honey, and water in a blender until smooth. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer to remove any fibrous pieces of mango or basil.

Next, pour the strained mixture into a saucepan and heat it over medium heat just until it begins to simmer. Remove from heat and let it cool to room temperature. Once cooled, transfer the mixture to the refrigerator and chill for at least 2 hours.

After the mixture has chilled, pour it into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions until it reaches a smooth and creamy consistency.

Transfer the sorbet to a container and freeze for an additional 2-3 hours to firm up before serving. Once ready, scoop the Mango Basil Sorbet into bowls or cones, and garnish with fresh basil leaves for an extra burst of flavor.

This recipe yields approximately 800g of sorbet, enough for 6 servings. Each serving weighs around 133g and contains approximately 150 calories.

One unique tip for this recipe is to add a splash of vodka to the mixture before churning in the ice cream maker. The alcohol helps to keep the sorbet from freezing too hard, resulting in a smoother texture.
