Today’s Special: Spicy Beef and Chocolate Stew

I’m excited to share a unique recipe that combines unexpected flavors for a truly unforgettable dining experience. As the weather cools down, I find myself craving hearty stews that warm the soul. Today, I’m putting a twist on a classic beef stew by adding a surprising ingredient – chocolate!

For this spicy beef and chocolate stew, you’ll need the following ingredients: approximately 500g of beef chuck, 1 onion, 2 cloves of garlic, 1 red bell pepper, 1 can of kidney beans, 2 tablespoons of tomato paste, 1 teaspoon of chili powder, 1 teaspoon of cumin, 1 teaspoon of paprika, 1 cup of beef broth, 50g of dark chocolate, salt, and pepper.

To prepare this dish, you’ll need the following kitchen tools:

  • chef’s knife
  • cutting board
  • Dutch oven
  • wooden spoon
  • measuring cups

Start by dicing the onion, mincing the garlic, and slicing the red bell pepper. Cut the beef chuck into bite-sized pieces. In a Dutch oven over medium heat, brown the beef in batches, then remove and set aside. In the same pot, sauté the onion, garlic, and red bell pepper until softened.

Add the tomato paste, chili powder, cumin, and paprika to the pot, stirring to coat the vegetables. Return the beef to the pot and pour in the beef broth. Bring the stew to a simmer, then cover and cook on low heat for 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally.

After the stew has simmered, add the kidney beans and dark chocolate, stirring until the chocolate has melted and the beans are heated through. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Allow the stew to simmer for an additional 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.

Once the stew is thick and rich, it’s ready to serve. This spicy beef and chocolate stew weighs approximately 1750g once cooked and serves 4 people. Each serving is around 437.5g, with an estimated calorie count of 400 per serving.

One unique tip for this recipe is to serve the stew with a garnish of fresh cilantro and a dollop of sour cream. The freshness of the cilantro and the creaminess of the sour cream balance out the richness of the stew, enhancing the overall flavor profile.

I hope you enjoy trying this unexpected blend of flavors in my spicy beef and chocolate stew. Feel free to make it your own by adjusting the spice level, adding different vegetables, or experimenting with various types of chocolate. Happy cooking!
