As the weather warms up and I start craving fresh, vibrant flavors, I find myself drawn to unique fusions of cuisines. Today, I want to share with you my latest creation: a Spicy Mexican Sushi Roll. This dish combines the zesty, bold flavors of Mexican cuisine with the delicate and precise art of sushi-making. It’s the perfect dish for a fun dinner party or a casual weeknight meal with a twist.

For this recipe, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 150g sushi rice, cooked
  • 2 nori sheets
  • 1 ripe avocado, sliced
  • 1 jalapeno, thinly sliced
  • 50g pickled red onion
  • 100g cooked shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tbsp spicy mayo
  • 1 tbsp siracha
  • 1 lime, sliced into wedges

To prepare this dish, you will need the following kitchen tools:

  • bamboo sushi mat
  • sharp knife
  • rice cooker
  • mixing bowl

Begin by laying a nori sheet on your bamboo sushi mat. Spread a thin layer of sushi rice evenly over the nori sheet, leaving a small gap at the top. Arrange slices of avocado, jalapeno, pickled red onion, and cooked shrimp in a line across the center of the rice.

Mix the spicy mayo and siracha in a small bowl, then drizzle it over the fillings. Carefully roll up the sushi roll using the bamboo mat, pressing gently to seal the edge. Use a sharp knife to slice the roll into bite-sized pieces.

Serve the Spicy Mexican Sushi Roll with lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the rolls. The tangy lime juice adds a refreshing burst of flavor that perfectly complements the spicy mayo and jalapeno.
