Today’s Special: Savory Apple Pie

As the leaves start to change color and the air gets crisp, I find myself craving warm, comforting dishes that remind me of cozy fall afternoons. That’s why I’m excited to share with you my unique twist on a classic dessert – the savory apple pie. The unexpected combination of sweet and savory flavors will tantalize your taste buds and leave you wanting more. Let’s get started!

Ingredients:

  • 3 large apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 6 slices of crispy bacon, crumbled
  • 1 cup of sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 pre-made pie crust, at room temperature
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Kitchen Tools:

  • mixing bowl
  • rolling pin
  • pie dish
  • knife
  • pastry brush

Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, crumbled bacon, shredded cheddar cheese, diced onion, and fresh thyme leaves. Mix well to ensure all ingredients are evenly distributed.

Roll out the pre-made pie crust on a floured surface using a rolling pin. Carefully transfer the crust to a pie dish, making sure it covers the bottom and sides completely. Fill the crust with the apple-bacon mixture, spreading it out evenly.

Place another pie crust on top of the filling, sealing the edges by crimping with your fingers or a fork. Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg to give it a golden shine.

Bake the savory apple pie in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbling. Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

This savory apple pie weighs approximately 1200 grams and serves 8. Each serving has around 250 calories.

Clever Tip:

For an extra flavor boost, try adding a sprinkle of smoked paprika to the apple-bacon mixture before baking. It will add a delicious smoky depth to the dish!

I hope you enjoy this unique twist on a classic dish. Feel free to customize it with your favorite ingredients or spices to make it your own. Happy baking!
