Homemade Peach Basil Sorbet

Today, I’m excited to share a refreshing and unique dessert recipe with you all. As summer comes to an end, I find myself trying to hold onto the flavors of the season as long as I can. This homemade peach basil sorbet is the perfect way to savor the last of the summer fruits and herbs before the fall sets in.

Ingredients

  • 450g ripe peaches (pitted and chopped)
  • 15g fresh basil leaves
  • 100g granulated sugar
  • 120ml water
  • 30ml lemon juice

Kitchen Tools

  • blender
  • saucepan
  • mesh strainer
  • ice cream maker

I start by combining the chopped peaches, basil leaves, sugar, and water in a saucepan over medium heat. I allow the mixture to simmer for about 10 minutes until the peaches are soft and the sugar has dissolved. Once done, I remove it from the heat and let it cool to room temperature.

Next, I transfer the mixture to a blender and puree it until smooth. I then strain the mixture through a mesh strainer to remove any pulp or chunks. I add in the lemon juice and give it a quick stir before pouring it into an ice cream maker.

I churn the sorbet in the ice cream maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions, usually for about 20-25 minutes, until it reaches a soft serve consistency. Once ready, I transfer the sorbet to a container and freeze it for an additional 2-3 hours to firm up.

The end result is a beautifully light and fruity peach basil sorbet that pairs the sweetness of the peaches with the peppery freshness of the basil. It’s a perfect balance of flavors that will leave you wanting more.

One clever tip for this recipe is to add a splash of vodka to the mixture before churning it in the ice cream maker. The alcohol helps keep the sorbet from freezing too hard, resulting in a smoother and creamier texture.

I hope you give this homemade peach basil sorbet a try and get creative with your own flavor combinations. Enjoy this delightful dessert to cool off on a warm day or impress your guests with a unique sweet treat!
