Deliciously Unique Chocolate Beet Cake

As the leaves start to change and the air becomes crisp, I find myself drawn to creating cozy and comforting recipes in the kitchen. Today, I’m excited to share with you a recipe for a truly unique and unexpected dessert: Chocolate Beet Cake. This cake is not only deliciously moist and rich in chocolate flavor, but it also has a surprise ingredient that adds a subtle earthiness and sweetness — beets!

To start off, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 3 medium beets, cooked and pureed (about 300g)
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour (180g)
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder (50g)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (200g)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted (115g)
  • 2 eggs, room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup chocolate chips (90g)

For this recipe, you will need the following kitchen tools:

  • mixing bowl
  • whisk
  • rubber spatula
  • 9-inch round cake pan
  • hand mixer

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your cake pan. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, mix the beet puree, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined. Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just incorporated. Fold in the chocolate chips.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Once cooled, slice the cake into wedges and serve. This Chocolate Beet Cake has a total weight of approximately 800g and yields 8 slices. Each slice is around 100g and has an estimated calorie count of 250 calories.

One clever tip for this recipe is to frost the cake with a cream cheese frosting infused with a hint of orange zest for a delicious citrusy contrast to the rich chocolate and earthy beets.

I hope you give this unique Chocolate Beet Cake a try and enjoy the unexpected combination of flavors. Feel free to get creative and make it your own by adding nuts, spices, or different frostings. Happy baking!
