Homemade Blueberry Basil Sorbet

Today, I’m excited to share a unique and refreshing dessert recipe that’s perfect for those warm summer days or when you’re craving something sweet and tangy. This homemade blueberry basil sorbet is a delightful combination of fruity sweetness and herbaceous freshness that will surprise and impress your taste buds.

Ingredients:

  • 250g fresh blueberries
  • 10g fresh basil leaves
  • 100g granulated sugar
  • 120ml water
  • 30ml lemon juice

Kitchen Tools:

  • saucepan
  • blender
  • fine mesh sieve
  • ice cream maker

Start by combining the fresh blueberries, basil leaves, granulated sugar, and water in a saucepan over medium heat. Let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes until the blueberries burst and release their juices, and the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the mixture cool to room temperature.

Once the blueberry mixture has cooled, transfer it to a blender and blend until smooth. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove any solids and seeds, leaving you with a smooth blueberry base.

Stir in the lemon juice to add a zesty kick to the sorbet base. Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions until the sorbet reaches a soft, smooth consistency.

Transfer the sorbet to a container and freeze for at least 4 hours to set. When ready to serve, scoop the blueberry basil sorbet into bowls or cones and garnish with fresh basil leaves for a pop of color and flavor.

This homemade blueberry basil sorbet weighs approximately 540g once cooked and serves 4 people. Each serving is around 135g, with an estimated calorie count of 120 per serving.

One clever tip for this recipe is to add a splash of vodka to the sorbet mixture before churning in the ice cream maker. The alcohol helps keep the sorbet soft and scoopable, even after being stored in the freezer.

I hope you enjoy making and tasting this unique blueberry basil sorbet! Feel free to experiment with different herbs or fruits to create your own custom sorbet flavors. Happy dessert-making!
