Discover a Delicious Twist on a Classic Dish

Today, I am excited to share with you a unique and flavorful twist on a classic French onion soup. This dish is perfect for a cozy night in or as a starter for a special dinner with friends and family. The combination of rich caramelized onions, savory broth, and gooey cheese will leave you coming back for more!

Ingredients:

  • 3 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 liter of beef broth
  • 1/2 cup of red wine
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 small baguette, sliced
  • 200g of gruyere cheese, grated
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil

Kitchen Tools:

  • chef’s knife
  • cutting board
  • soup pot
  • oven-safe bowls
  • grater

Preparation:

Start by heating the olive oil and butter in a large soup pot over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and garlic, stirring occasionally until golden brown and caramelized, about 30 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Pour in the red wine and beef broth, bring to a simmer, and let the flavors meld together for another 20 minutes. While the soup simmers, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Place the baguette slices on a baking sheet and toast in the oven until golden and crisp, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from the oven and set aside.

Ladle the soup into oven-safe bowls, top each with a few slices of toasted baguette, and sprinkle a generous amount of grated gruyere cheese on top.

Place the bowls under the broiler for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Serve hot and enjoy the gooey goodness!

Clever Tip:

For an extra depth of flavor, try adding a sprinkle of fresh thyme or a dash of Worcestershire sauce to the soup before serving. It will take your French onion soup to the next level!
