Art History Recipe: Mediterranean Harvest Frittata

Hello, foodies! Today, I’m excited to share with you a recipe I created inspired by the vibrant colors and flavors of the Mediterranean. As an art history enthusiast, I often find myself drawing inspiration from different cultures and artistic movements. This dish combines the freshness of Mediterranean ingredients with the heartiness of a classic frittata, creating a delicious and unique combination that is perfect for any meal of the day.

Ingredients:

  • 200g cherry tomatoes
  • 150g zucchini
  • 100g kalamata olives
  • 100g feta cheese
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 small red onion
  • a handful of fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • salt and pepper to taste

Kitchen Tools:

  • knife
  • cutting board
  • whisk
  • oven-proof skillet

To start, preheat your oven to 180°C. Slice the cherry tomatoes in half, dice the zucchini and red onion, and roughly chop the kalamata olives and fresh basil. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs with a pinch of salt and pepper.

Heat olive oil in an oven-proof skillet over medium heat. Add the diced red onion and zucchini, cooking until softened. Then, add in the cherry tomatoes and kalamata olives, cooking for another few minutes until everything is heated through.

Pour the whisked eggs into the skillet, making sure they cover all the vegetables evenly. Crumble feta cheese on top and sprinkle with fresh basil. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the top is slightly golden.

Once cooked, remove the skillet from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Carefully slide the frittata onto a plate, slice it into wedges, and serve hot. This Mediterranean Harvest Frittata is perfect for brunch, lunch, or a light dinner.

The total weight of the cooked frittata is approximately 800g, with 4 servings. Each serving is around 200g, with an estimated calorie count of 250 per portion.

One unique tip for this recipe is to sprinkle some za’atar spice blend over the frittata before baking for an extra layer of flavor that will transport your taste buds to the Middle East.

I hope you enjoy making this Mediterranean Harvest Frittata as much as I do. Feel free to customize it with your favorite Mediterranean ingredients and make it your own masterpiece. Happy cooking!
