Dessert Recipe: Spiced Apple Galette with Cardamom Cream

Today, I’m excited to share a cozy and comforting dessert recipe that’s perfect for the fall season. This spiced apple galette with cardamom cream is a delightful treat that combines the warm flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cardamom with the sweetness of baked apples. It’s a simple yet elegant dessert that is sure to impress your family and friends.

Ingredients:

  • 150g all-purpose flour
  • 100g unsalted butter
  • 50g granulated sugar
  • a pinch of salt
  • 2 medium apples, sliced
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 cardamom pods, crushed
  • 100ml heavy cream

Kitchen Tools:

  • mixing bowl
  • rolling pin
  • baking sheet
  • oven preheated to 375°F (190°C)

To start, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Cut the butter into small cubes and add it to the flour mixture. Use your fingers to rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Slowly add cold water, a little at a time, until the dough comes together. Shape the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and chill it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

While the dough is chilling, prepare the apples by slicing them thinly and tossing them with the cinnamon, nutmeg, and crushed cardamom pods. Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface into a circle about 10 inches in diameter. Transfer the dough to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Arrange the sliced apples in the center of the dough, leaving a border of about 2 inches. Fold the edges of the dough over the apples, pleating as you go. Brush the edges of the dough with a little water and sprinkle some sugar on top.

Bake the galette in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender. While the galette is baking, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Add a pinch of cardamom to the whipped cream for an extra layer of flavor.

Once the galette is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly. Serve slices of the galette with a dollop of cardamom cream on top. Enjoy this delicious dessert warm with a cup of tea or coffee.
