Japanese-Inspired Pork Belly Ramen

Today, I’m excited to share my take on a comforting bowl of Japanese-inspired pork belly ramen. This dish is perfect for chilly evenings and will transport you to a cozy ramen shop in the heart of Tokyo. The rich broth, tender pork belly, and flavorful toppings make for a truly satisfying meal.

Ingredients:

  • pork belly (500g)
  • ramen noodles (200g)
  • dried shiitake mushrooms (50g)
  • green onions (50g)
  • garlic (3 cloves)
  • ginger (thumb-sized piece)
  • soy sauce (50ml)
  • mirin (50ml)
  • chicken stock (1 liter)

Kitchen Tools:

  • chef’s knife
  • cutting board
  • pot
  • large skillet
  • strainer

To start, slice the pork belly into thin strips and marinate in a mixture of soy sauce, mirin, minced garlic, and grated ginger for at least 30 minutes. In a pot, bring the chicken stock to a simmer and add the dried shiitake mushrooms to rehydrate. Once softened, remove the mushrooms and slice them thinly.

In a large skillet, sear the marinated pork belly until crispy and golden brown. Remove from the skillet and set aside. Add the sliced green onions, garlic, and ginger to the skillet and sauté until fragrant. Pour in the chicken stock and bring to a gentle simmer.

Cook the ramen noodles according to the package instructions and divide them into serving bowls. Ladle the hot broth over the noodles, then arrange the sliced pork belly and shiitake mushrooms on top. Serve hot, garnished with extra green onions and a drizzle of chili oil if desired.

The cooked dish weighs approximately 1500g, serves 4, with an average serving weight of 375g. Each serving is approximately 450 calories.

One unique tip for this recipe is to add a splash of sesame oil to the broth before serving. It will impart a nutty aroma and enhance the overall flavor profile of the dish.

I hope you give this Japanese-inspired pork belly ramen a try and make it your own with your favorite toppings. Enjoy this bowl of comfort on a chilly day!
