Hey there, foodies! Today, I am thrilled to share a unique recipe that was inspired by a recent trip to the bustling streets of Tokyo. The flavors of Japanese and Mexican cuisine collided in the most incredible way, leading me to create this one-of-a-kind dish that I can’t wait for you to try.

Ingredients

  • 200g sushi rice
  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 2 nori sheets
  • 150g sashimi-grade tuna
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 lime
  • 1 jalapeno
  • a handful of fresh cilantro

Kitchen Tools

  • rice cooker
  • sushi mat
  • sharp knife
  • zester

Preparation

To start, cook the sushi rice according to the package instructions in a rice cooker. Once cooked, season the rice with a splash of soy sauce and the juice of half a lime. Let the rice cool slightly before handling.

While the rice is cooking, thinly slice the sashimi-grade tuna into bite-sized pieces and marinate in a mixture of soy sauce and lime juice. Finely chop the jalapeno (seeds removed for less heat) and roughly chop the cilantro.

On a clean surface, lay out a sheet of nori and place a thin layer of seasoned sushi rice on top. Add slices of avocado, marinated tuna, chopped jalapeno, and cilantro. Carefully roll the nori sheet into a tight roll using a sushi mat. Repeat with the second nori sheet.

Using a sharp knife, slice the sushi rolls into individual pieces. Serve with extra soy sauce, lime wedges, and a sprinkle of cilantro on top.

Clever Tip

For an extra burst of flavor, try zesting some lime or jalapeno over the sushi rolls before serving. This will add a bright and refreshing kick to each bite!
