Introducing: Honey Lavender Glazed Duck

Hey there, food enthusiasts! Today, I’m excited to share a unique and delightful recipe that combines savory and sweet flavors in a perfect harmony. I was inspired to create this dish after a visit to a local lavender farm, where the intoxicating aroma sparked my creativity in the kitchen. This Honey Lavender Glazed Duck is sure to impress your taste buds and elevate your culinary experience.

Ingredients:

  • 2 duck breasts (400g)
  • 1/4 cup honey (60ml)
  • 1 tablespoon dried lavender buds
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar (30ml)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (30ml)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Kitchen Tools:

  • skillet
  • tongs
  • meat thermometer
  • whisk
  • small bowl

Preparation:

Start by scoring the skin of the duck breasts in a crisscross pattern, being careful not to cut into the meat. This will help the fat render while cooking, resulting in a crispy skin. Season the duck breasts generously with salt and pepper on both sides.

In a small bowl, combine the honey, dried lavender buds, minced garlic, and balsamic vinegar. Whisk together until well blended to create the fragrant glaze for the duck.

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Place the duck breasts skin side down and cook for about 5-7 minutes until the skin is golden brown and crispy. Flip the duck breasts and continue to cook for another 5-7 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 135°F (57°C) for medium-rare or 145°F (63°C) for medium.

Pour the honey lavender glaze over the duck breasts in the skillet, allowing it to caramelize and coat the duck. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, basting the duck with the glaze.

Remove the duck breasts from the skillet and let them rest for a few minutes before slicing. Drizzle any remaining glaze over the sliced duck for an extra burst of flavor.

Serve the Honey Lavender Glazed Duck hot, accompanied by your favorite side dishes or a fresh salad. Enjoy the unique combination of savory duck with sweet, floral notes from the lavender and honey.

Tips:

For an extra layer of flavor, try adding a splash of white wine to the honey lavender glaze as it cooks, enhancing the complexity of the dish.
