Today’s Delight: Caramelized Pear and Blue Cheese Galette

As the crisp autumn air sets in, I find myself craving comforting yet elegant dishes that highlight the flavors of the season. Today, I’m excited to share with you my recipe for a Caramelized Pear and Blue Cheese Galette. The sweet and savory combination of caramelized pears and creamy blue cheese encased in a flaky, buttery crust is simply irresistible. Let’s get started!

Ingredients:

  • all-purpose flour (250g)
  • unsalted butter, cold and cubed (150g)
  • salt (1/2 tsp)
  • ice water (4-6 tbsp)
  • Bosc pears, thinly sliced (3)
  • brown sugar (50g)
  • blue cheese, crumbled (100g)
  • honey (2 tbsp)
  • fresh thyme leaves

Kitchen Tools:

  • mixing bowl
  • pastry cutter
  • rolling pin
  • baking sheet

To make the galette dough, combine the flour and salt in a mixing bowl. Add the cold, cubed butter and use a pastry cutter to work it into the flour until you have coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together. Shape the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a circle about 12 inches in diameter. Transfer the dough to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

In a small bowl, toss the sliced pears with brown sugar and arrange them in the center of the dough, leaving a border around the edges. Fold the edges of the dough over the pears, creating a rustic, free-form shape.

Bake the galette in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the pears are caramelized. Remove from the oven and sprinkle the crumbled blue cheese over the top. Drizzle with honey and sprinkle fresh thyme leaves for a pop of freshness.

Once cooled slightly, slice the galette into wedges and serve warm. The combination of sweet, caramelized pears with tangy blue cheese is truly magical.

Approximate total weight of cooked dish: 900g
Approximate number of servings: 6
Average weight of one serving: 150g
Approximate calorie count per serving: 320 calories

Tip: For an extra indulgent touch, try adding a handful of toasted walnuts or pecans to the filling for added crunch and nuttiness.

I hope you give this Caramelized Pear and Blue Cheese Galette a try and enjoy it as much as I do! Feel free to experiment with different fruits or cheeses to make it your own. Bon appétit!
