Moroccan-inspired Lamb Meatball Tagine

Today, I’m thrilled to share a recipe that brings together the exotic flavors of Morocco in a comforting and delicious dish. This Lamb Meatball Tagine is perfect for a cozy winter evening or a dinner party with friends. Let’s dive into this flavorful creation!

Ingredients:

  • 500g ground lamb
  • 200g couscous
  • 100g dried apricots, chopped
  • 50g almonds, sliced
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 500ml vegetable broth
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • to taste

Kitchen Tools:

  • skillet
  • mixing bowl
  • wooden spoon
  • tagine pot

To start, combine the ground lamb, chopped onions, minced garlic, chopped dried apricots, ground cinnamon, cumin, coriander, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl. Use your hands to mix everything together, then shape the mixture into small meatballs.

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and brown the meatballs on all sides. Once browned, transfer the meatballs to a tagine pot. In the same skillet, add the sliced almonds and lightly toast them until golden brown, then sprinkle them over the meatballs in the tagine.

Pour the vegetable broth into the tagine pot, cover with a lid, and let it simmer gently for about 20 minutes until the meatballs are cooked through and tender. While the meatballs are simmering, prepare the couscous according to the package instructions.

Serve the Lamb Meatball Tagine hot over a bed of fluffy couscous. The tender and flavorful meatballs combined with the sweetness of the apricots and the crunch of almonds will transport you straight to the streets of Marrakech.

Additional Tips:

For a twist, you can add a pinch of saffron threads to the broth for an extra layer of flavor and a vibrant color.
