Today’s Recipe: Spiced Pear Galette

Hello, foodies! Today, I’m excited to share with you my latest creation – a spiced pear galette that’s perfect for the upcoming holiday season. This rustic dessert combines the warm flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg, and sweet pears in a flaky pastry shell. It’s sure to be a hit at your next gathering or as a cozy treat for yourself. Let’s dive into the recipe!

Ingredients:

  • all-purpose flour (200g)
  • butter, cold and cubed (120g)
  • sugar (50g)
  • salt (a pinch)
  • ice water (50ml)
  • pears, thinly sliced (3 medium)
  • cinnamon (1 tsp)
  • nutmeg (1/2 tsp)
  • lemon zest (from 1 lemon)
  • egg wash (1 egg + 1 tbsp water)

Kitchen Tools:

  • mixing bowl
  • pastry cutter
  • rolling pin
  • baking sheet

To start, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the cold, cubed butter and use a pastry cutter to cut it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. Slowly add in the ice water, a little at a time, until the dough comes together. Shape the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

While the dough chills, prepare your pears by slicing them thinly and tossing them with cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon zest. Once the dough has chilled, roll it out on a floured surface into a rough circle. Carefully transfer the dough to the prepared baking sheet.

Arrange the sliced pears in the center of the dough, leaving a border around the edges. Fold the edges of the dough over the pears, creating a rustic tart shape. Brush the exposed dough with egg wash for a golden finish.

Bake the galette in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the pears are tender. Allow the galette to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy a slice of this spiced pear galette on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delightful treat!

Pro Tip: For an extra burst of flavor, sprinkle some chopped nuts over the pears before folding the edges of the galette. The added crunch will take this dessert to the next level!

I hope you give this spiced pear galette a try and enjoy every bite. Feel free to get creative with the spices and fruits to make it your own. Happy baking!
