Today’s Unique Creation: Caramelized Onion and Pear Crostini

Hello, fellow food lovers! I’m excited to share a delicious and unexpected recipe with you today. The sweet and savory combination of caramelized onion and pear on crispy crostini is perfect for any special occasion or cozy night in.

Ingredients:

  • 2 onions, thinly sliced (~300g)
  • 2 pears, thinly sliced (~200g)
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar (60ml)
  • 1/4 cup honey (60ml)
  • 1 baguette, sliced into rounds (~250g)
  • 4 oz goat cheese (120g)
  • Fresh thyme leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste

To start, heat a skillet over medium heat and add a drizzle of olive oil. Add the sliced onions and cook until they are caramelized and golden brown, about 20-25 minutes. Stir in the balsamic vinegar and honey, and continue to cook for an additional 5 minutes until the mixture is thick and glossy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

While the onions are caramelizing, preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Place the baguette slices on a baking sheet and toast in the oven for 5-7 minutes until they are crispy and golden brown.

Once the crostini are ready, spread a layer of goat cheese on each slice. Top with a spoonful of the caramelized onion mixture and a few slices of pear. Sprinkle fresh thyme leaves over the top for a burst of flavor.

Serving:

The approximate total weight of the cooked dish is 910g, with around 16 servings. Each serving weighs approximately 57g, and has an estimated calorie count of 120 per serving.

One clever tip for this dish is to sprinkle a touch of sea salt over the crostini just before serving to enhance the flavors and add a little extra crunch.
