Today’s Special: Caramelized Onion and Pear Tart

Hey there, foodies! Today, I am excited to share with you a delightful recipe that combines the sweetness of caramelized onions with the juiciness of ripe pears in a buttery tart. This dish is perfect for a cozy fall evening or a special brunch with friends. Let’s get started!

Ingredients:

  • 2 red onions (200g), thinly sliced
  • 3 tbsp butter (40g)
  • 2 tbsp sugar (25g)
  • 2 ripe pears (300g), thinly sliced
  • 1 sheet of puff pastry (200g), thawed
  • 100g goat cheese, crumbled
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme leaves
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of pepper

Kitchen Tools:

  • knife
  • cutting board
  • skillet
  • rolling pin
  • baking sheet

I start by melting the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Once the butter is sizzling, I add in the sliced red onions and sugar. I cook them, stirring occasionally, for about 20 minutes until they are nicely caramelized and golden brown. Then, I add in the sliced pears and cook for another 5 minutes until they are softened. I season the mixture with salt and pepper.

Next, I roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface to fit a baking sheet. I transfer the pastry to the baking sheet and spread the caramelized onion and pear mixture evenly on top. I crumble the goat cheese over the tart and sprinkle with fresh thyme leaves.

I bake the tart in a preheated oven at 200°C for 20-25 minutes until the pastry is golden brown and crispy. Once out of the oven, I let it cool slightly before slicing into squares.

Approximate total weight of the cooked dish: 1050g
Approximate number of servings: 8
Average weight of one serving: 131g
Approximate calorie count per serving: 280 calories

One clever tip is to sprinkle a little extra sugar on top of the tart before baking to create a shiny, caramelized finish on the pastry.

I hope you give this Caramelized Onion and Pear Tart a try and enjoy the sweet and savory flavors in every bite. Feel free to customize the toppings with your favorite cheeses or herbs. Happy cooking!
