Today’s Unique Dessert Recipe: Spiced Apple Galette

Growing up, apple pie was always a staple dessert in my family. But today, I wanted to switch things up a bit and create a unique twist on this classic dish. With a combination of spices and a rustic galette crust, this Spiced Apple Galette is the perfect dessert for a cozy fall evening.

Ingredients:

  • 4 apples, thinly sliced
  • 100g brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 50g cold butter, cubed
  • 1 store-bought pie crust
  • 1 egg, beaten

Kitchen Tools:

  • mixing bowl
  • baking sheet
  • rolling pin
  • pastry brush

Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and lemon juice. Toss everything together until the apples are coated in the sugar and spices.

Roll out the pie crust on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spoon the spiced apple mixture onto the center of the crust, leaving a border of about 2 inches. Dot the apples with the cubed butter. Fold the edges of the crust over the apples, pleating as you go.

Brush the crust with the beaten egg to give it a beautiful golden color as it bakes. Place the galette in the preheated oven and bake for about 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.

Once the Spiced Apple Galette is done baking, remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. This dessert is best enjoyed warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of fresh whipped cream.

The approximate total weight of the cooked Spiced Apple Galette is 800g, with 8 servings. Each serving weighs around 100g, with an estimated calorie count of 250 per serving.

One unique tip for this recipe is to sprinkle a bit of coarse sugar on top of the crust before baking. This will add a lovely crunch and additional sweetness to the galette.

I hope you give this Spiced Apple Galette a try and enjoy it as much as I do. Feel free to get creative with the spices or add a handful of raisins or chopped nuts to make it your own. Happy baking!
