As the weather starts to warm up, I always find myself craving the fresh flavors of summer. Today, I’m excited to share with you my unique recipe for a Blueberry Basil Galette. This dish combines the sweetness of blueberries with the herbaceous notes of basil for a surprising and delicious twist on a classic dessert.

Ingredients:

  • 200g fresh blueberries
  • 10 basil leaves, thinly sliced
  • 50g granulated sugar
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 150g all-purpose flour
  • 100g cold butter, cubed
  • 2-3 tablespoons ice water
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Preparation:

In a mixing bowl, combine the blueberries, basil leaves, sugar, and lemon zest. Set aside to let the flavors meld together. In another bowl, mix the flour and cold butter until crumbly. Slowly add ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until a dough forms. Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rough circle.

Place the blueberry mixture in the center of the dough, leaving a border. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling, pleating as you go. Brush the edges with the egg wash for a shiny finish. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.

Tips:

For an extra burst of flavor, try adding a sprinkle of fresh ground black pepper to the blueberry mixture before baking. The slight heat and spice will complement the sweetness of the berries and basil perfectly.

Serving:

Once the galette is baked to perfection, allow it to cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delightful treat that’s sure to impress.
