Today’s Breakfast Creation: Savory French Toast with a Twist

I’m excited to share a unique breakfast recipe that combines the classic flavors of French toast with a savory twist. This dish is perfect for a leisurely weekend brunch or a special occasion when you want to impress your guests with something unexpected and delicious.

Ingredients:

  • thick-cut brioche bread (4 slices)
  • prosciutto (4 slices)
  • gruyère cheese (50g, grated)
  • large eggs (2)
  • milk (120ml)
  • dijon mustard (1 tbsp)
  • salt and pepper (to taste)
  • butter (for frying)

Kitchen Tools:

  • mixing bowl
  • whisk
  • frying pan
  • spatula

Start by whisking together the eggs, milk, dijon mustard, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl until well combined. Take two slices of brioche bread and spread a thin layer of dijon mustard on each slice. Place a slice of prosciutto and a generous amount of grated gruyère cheese on top of one slice, then place the other slice on top to make a sandwich.

Dip the brioche sandwich into the egg mixture, making sure to coat both sides evenly. In a frying pan over medium heat, melt a knob of butter and fry the sandwich for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and the cheese is melted.

Once cooked, remove the savory French toast from the pan and cut it in half diagonally. Serve hot with a side of mixed greens or a simple salad for a complete meal.

This savory French toast creation weighs approximately 400g in total, making 2 servings with an average weight of 200g per serving. Each serving is estimated to have around 400 calories.

One clever tip for this recipe is to add a drizzle of honey or maple syrup on top of the savory French toast for a sweet and savory contrast that will elevate the flavors even more.

I hope you give this unique breakfast dish a try and enjoy the combination of flavors and textures. Feel free to experiment with different cheeses, meats, or spices to make it your own. Happy cooking!
